With a traditional GT car aspect (long hood, sweeping roofline, short rear deck), the 2022 Mirai transmits a sensation of motion in a practical four-door sedan design. The cabin silhouette flows backward, with sleek, smooth side surfaces highlighted by a dramatic sculpted rocker section with a kickup towards the rear wheel.
The body tapers towards the back and merges into an integrated rear spoiler. The impression is similar to a single metal form moulded into a striking shape. The Limited trim level includes a distinctive dual-panel panorama roof with fixed glass panels and a motorised sunshade.
The exterior colours of the 2022 Mirai will be Black, Oxygen White, Supersonic Red, Hydro Blue, and Heavy Metal.
The second-generation Mirai has a more advanced FC system. The next-generation fuel cell stack is around 20% smaller and 50% lighter than the previous stack, and hence fits comfortably under the hood of the Mirai. The transition to rear-wheel drive was made possible by the new, smaller stack. The first-generation Mirai was FWD, and the larger stack was hidden beneath a raised piece of the passenger compartment floor.
The FC stack enclosure now incorporates a compact, lightweight power control device, greatly lowering overall system size. The relocation of the air intake manifold, as well as the optimization of the gas channel separator electrodes and seals, resulting in a 12% improvement in power output over the first-generation stack (128kw, up from 114kw).

Both the Mirai XLE and Limited come standard with an 8-inch colour TFT LCD digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia display. A 4.2-inch multi-information display within the 8-inch gauge cluster has an ECO drive indicator that assists the driver in maximising fuel efficiency by offering acceleration advice and assigning a score for economical driving. The level of hydrogen fuel and the remaining range are always displayed.
The 12.3-inch display is straightforward for the driver or front passenger to use, and the entertainment, climate control, and navigation content can be toggled to the left and right. Both model grades have a three-year free trial of Dynamic Navigation and Premium Audio through 14 JBL® speakers, including a subwoofer. The system includes Bluetooth® wireless technology, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay®, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and a 3-month All Access trial subscription to SiriusXM®.
The 12.3-inch display also shows images from the Bird's Eye View Camera with Perimeter Scan, the Overhead 360-Degree View in drive and reverse, and the Curb View (standard on Limited and available for XLE).
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is installed in the 2021 Mirai to help avoid or lessen crashes. TSS 2.5+, which is also available on other 2021 Toyotas such as the Camry and Highlander, is the next step in Toyota's progression of active safety systems. A variety of Toyota Safety Sense-related functions have been improved.
To begin, the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) has been enhanced significantly. By improving the system's capabilities, it is now possible for the system to identify not just the vehicle ahead, but also a preceding biker during the day and a preceding pedestrian during the night. TSS 2.5+ additionally adds intersection support to the PCS w/PD system.
